Event Details

Unfortunately ALL seats in the GM Theater for Freedom 2011 have been reserved.

However, due to high demand for this once-in-a-lifetime-concert, we are pleased to offer an overflow viewing area (FREE of charge) on the lower level of the Charles H. Wright MAAH where an audio and video feed from the GM Theater will be provided. Cash bar available.

All attendees are invited to a special meet and greet with 2011 DJF Artist in Residence Jeff "Tain" Watts immediately following the performance.

Please note, tickets for overflow room WILL NOT grant admission to the GM Theater. Overflow seating is on a first come first served basis.

For additional information please email info@detroitjazzfest.com.

Freedom 2011 is drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts’ curated celebration of inspirational music from the Civil Rights Movement. The program will also include original works honoring icons from James Brown to August Wilson.  The concert will indict early 21st century politics, and even take a humorous look at the minstrel.
